What follows is the Text of Charlie's Message:

Yesterday, Jan 6, shocked us, frightened us, nauseated us, broke our hearts.  Many of us saw this coming but hoped it might not.  However given the course on which this country has been set for the last 4 years it’s not surprising.  But when the smoke cleared, literally cleared, the hard work of democracy was eventually finished.  Know that, tell your broken hearts that...right now.  Say it with me, ‘the hard work of democracy was finished”.

I want to have that truth ringing in your soul.  And I also know Jan 6th isn’t over yet.  There will be judicial actions taken, media both reasonable and unreasonable will be slicing and dicing this for a long time, doing its best to keep our eyeballs on their screens.  Commentators will comment, vengeful people will seek revenge, hurt people will hurt people. No, Jan 6th won’t be over for a long time...nor should it.  We should be emotionally ready for a very long run.

However, it’s Jan 7th.  And we don’t know all the facts yet.  Much will be revealed as  the days, weeks, months and even years pass.  I believe my grandchildren will read of the events of Jan 6th in their history books.  And while my heart soars with the words... ‘the hard work of democracy was finished’ even more so these words ‘Love Wins’. Hate and fear are powerful motivators.  But only love can finish this long run.  Love will win and that is why you and I are so important.  We must find the way to give voice to love, compassion, mercy and respect.  You might find your own words, but if you’re struggling I suggest a review of our 7 Principles might be a good place to start. But know this, know this, even if you're not sure of it...LOVE WINS.

Thank you for being a part of a better answer for our lives and for our country.
