Questions about Reopening our Building?
 (10.15.20)
 Reopening Guidelines for UUCL

In the midst of uncertainty, it is the Unitarian Universalist Associations’s strong recommendation that congregations plan for ongoing virtual gathering and operations through May 2021. This applies to worship, events, committee meetings, staff meetings, one-on-one visits, rites of passage, and more. While smaller gatherings may be able to resume sooner if conditions improve, planning for virtual operations that could continue for a full year is advisable.

Some of the public health criteria UUCL will look to for shifting our congregations’ primary focus from online to full or modified in-person gatherings are:

1. multiple weeks of reduction in infections in Beaufort County according to the SCDHEC,
2. adequate virus and antibody testing,
3. sufficient personal protective equipment available for all people entering the UUCL building for worship, administration, in-house or third-party meetings, or hosted events such as Family Promise,
4. contact tracing programs in place throughout Beaufort County and South Carolina, and/or
5. a widely-available vaccine.

These are recommendations made by the Safety Committee of the UUCL Board guided by our responsibility to protect the health and safety of our members, employees and visitors. It will be the Board as a whole with the recommendations of the Safety Committee which will decide when full or modified in-person gatherings are feasible at UUCL. Once UUCL has reopened in any capacity, it will be the responsibility of the Board with the guidance of the Safety Committee to determine if and when full or modified shutdown due to COVID19 is necessary.
